Eto Yoshimura: The Complex and Enigmatic Character from Tokyo Ghoul
The founder and current ruler of the Aogiri Tree is the ghoul Eto Yoshimura. She is the notorious One-Eyed Owl who murdered both Akira’s mother and Kureo Mado’s wife. Sen Takatsuki, a bestselling author of horror books who is mentioned frequently in the series, is her human identity.
The Family
It is revealed that Eto is the child of a human named Ukina and Yoshimura, a ghoul who runs the Anteiku Cafe where Kaneki works, in the near finale of the first series. She frequently appears with Tatara, another Aogiri member, as they both enjoy watching fights from a distance.
Ukina and Yoshimura gave birth to the hybrid being Eto. They made Yoshimura kill his lover as retaliation for “betraying” them because she had been covertly looking into the organisation V. Yoshimura left his infant daughter with a ghoul named Noroi in the 24th ward who had her mother’s diary in order to keep her safe. Whatever happened in the roughly ten years that followed is unknown, but she would emerge from the 24th ward as a kakuja and start a bloody rampage.
Eto’s Personality
In her human form, Eto Yoshimura was a very naive, serene, upbeat, clumsy, and ditzy girl who frequently overslept on various occasions, including during a book signing, but was happy when her manager forbade it. She was also outgoing and friendly, especially with Hinami, to whom she frequently displays these traits. She will offer the latter helpful advice while never sugar-coating it. Hinami appears to regard her as a friend, and it’s possible that Eto was able to persuade Hinami to join Aogiri in the future as suggested after Anteiku was destroyed.
The sadistic personality of the ghoul Eto Yoshimura frequently displays joy at the expense of the suffering of others. She is happy to inflict pain on others and has no qualms about mercilessly slaughtering both humans and ghouls. In dealing with her victims and getting other people to do her bidding, Eto, like her mother, has a keen intuition about the emotions and desires of people that she fully exploits. She may have developed her twisted personality as a result of struggling to survive during her formative years in the 24th ward.
The Extraordinary Abilities
Eto, a half-ghoul, grew stronger thanks to hybrid vigour and inherited her ghoul father’s skills. Eto is a much more skilled kagune user than the majority of ghouls. Her kagune morphs into a number of hideous appendages attached to her back after the time skip. In order to serve Eto’s needs, these appendages can be formed into eyes, mouths, arms, and legs. Her kagune often speaks incoherent sentences, perhaps her current thoughts, suggesting that it is an extension of her consciousness.
Her kakuja kills those in front while her ukaku kagune covers medium to long distances. The majority of seasoned CCG investigators, including Yukinori Shinohara and Iwao Kuroiwa, who were both carrying Arata Proto, were easily outmatched by the projectiles fired by her ukaku kagune. She can keep her consciousness, unlike the majority of kakuja. Similar to her kagune, she has the ability to alter the appearance of her kakuja by spontaneously spawning extra limbs, mouths, and eyes. It also has the power to destroy a sizable disposal system at Cochlea.
