£700K in funding for UK Cyber Cluster Collaboration (UKC3)

The UKC3 or UK Cyber Cluster Collaboration is a platform of 20 regional clusters encompassing security employers, companies and other entities. It has now received funding of £700,000 from the DCMS (Department of Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport) for backing its activities as per ncsc sealbloomberg

UKC3 was founded in 2021 and has been given the mandate for creating initiatives for the promotion of more innovation and skill development relating to cyber security, in sync with the goals of the Government, while having coordinated with diverse stakeholders and industry organizations. It has also served as a point of contact for all these stakeholders.

The funding will be deployed by UKC3 for ensuring more opportunities for sharing knowledge and networking alike, while enabling better development of innovation and skills along with enabling future collaboration on issues related to security. Digital Minister, Matt Warman, stated at InfoSec that the cyber security segment is already touching £8.9 billion in value and there is steadfast work going on for touching the next level of progress. He also added that the new UKC3 will be helping remove these hurdles towards growth while helping people build their skills and give companies a new method of growing their competitive advantages.

The chair at UKC3, Richard Yorke, stated that the flourishing cyber segment in the country has already attained global leadership and with more collaborative initiatives, skill development and innovation, there is further scope to ensure better growth for citizens and companies throughout the United Kingdom. He also talked of encouraging more companies to engage with UKC3 for propelling future growth.

The interim CEO at the UK Cyber Security Council that was set up by the UK Government, Don McIntyre, welcomed the new funding announcement. He added that all efforts toward filling up the gap in skills and enabling sectoral growth will naturally have a positive effect on both cyber companies and practitioners. He also endorsed cluster collaborations as the best method for accomplishing target goals. He talked of how the UKC3 and similar initiatives have the highest levels of support from the Council. The UK Cyber Security Council has earlier advocated renewed commitment from companies towards security training, highlighting how many of them had dropped their guard throughout the pandemic.
