How To Make The Perfect Pour Over Coffee At Home

At the banquet, we buy the best beans to make great coffee. One of the many good methods we use is “pour-over”. Pour-over coffee is to slowly grind coffee to pour out a rich, flavorful cup of joe and pour hot water into a filter. We discuss the history of this simple tradition and explain how to make the perfect coffee at home.

What Is Pour-Over Coffee?

Pouring on the bar is a simple way to prepare a crisp, clean coffee at home. While this is often considered the slowest (and sometimes less effective) way to make a cup of coffee, over-the-counter coffee offers a simple twist on the new world of gizmos and gadgets.

All you need to make a cup of pour-over coffee are four things: water, coffee, a filter and your dollar maker of your choice. While this may not sound like any other, the difference is obvious: over-pouring offers more control over the coffee-making process.

You can experiment with your ideal water temperature and grinding size to find the best cup of coffee. Many coffee snubs think this is the best (or only) way to cook coffee because of its full flavor and aroma. Plus, it’s nice to see a lot of slow moving from filter to carafe, knowing that you’ve made it yourself.

Over Coffee On A Wooden Table

There are many different types of slow drives, from conventional alternatives to automatic machines. The Hario V60, the Cleaver Draper and the Cheemax are all popular and easy-to-use devices we sell on the roster! They use all the same adherence processes with change and give the same and delicious results.

* Note: Although an electric kettle is not exactly a pour-over maker, it can be a very useful tool when making your own cups at home! Boiling water takes time, and the machine is able to speed up the process and help you get a cup of morning coffee in your hands before it’s too late.

How to Make Pour-Over Coffee

There are two major factors in making coffee by pouring:

  1. Coffee bean quality
  2. Water purity

However, every detail is important. Getting consistent grinding roughness with proper measurements and the right water temperature will also improve the taste of your cup of coffee.

What you will need:

  • Quality, fresh coffee beans (gravitating to beans from Guatemala and Ethiopia)
  • Chemex coffee machine
  • Filtered water (we love this Berkey Water filter)
  • Water kettle (something that has a gooseneck spout is best for tapping)
  • Paper filters
  • Coffee grinder (the better the grind, the better the coffee. Grinding quality beans and filtered water trump card you only get what you can!)
  • Scale (ensures accuracy)

Now get ready. If you bathe enough, you will find different recommendations regarding the ratio of coffee to water. I have been making this recipe for many years and end up consuming 1g of coffee per 16ml of water. For a pot of coffee that yields about 2 large cups (250 ml each), I would use 32 g of coffee + ~ 500 ml of water. Pouring hot water into the coffee machine

This assumes that you are using high quality coffee beans and filtered water. Sometimes coffee is made unnecessarily strong to cover up the shortcomings of the beans or water.

I also usually grind the coffee more finely (to the consistency of table salt) than is usually recommended (coarse sea salt), which seems to be well balanced with a little more water to make a wonderful cup of coffee.

That is, don’t let it fool you. It will be a hearty cup of coffee! I adjust when I use a different bean or system, but this process has held up well for me for years (and we drink coffee almost every day).

We hope you LOVE this way of making coffee. That is: Tried and tested Easy to handle Consistent & Delicious every time

Enjoy your perfect cup of coffee as it is, or use it as a base for drinks like our Mushroom Latte 2 Ways! It can also be used in recipes such as coconut ice cream, caramel frappuccino from cold beer (chill coffee first), vegan chocolate coffee sandwiches, and 3-ingredient vegan flour ice cream. Hold the handle of the coffee mug.

How to Make Overflow Coffee

Our favorite way to make coffee at home, which we pour every time, complete step-by-step instructions and product recommendations!

Pouring hot water from the water heater into the coffee machine

TOTAL TIME PREPARATION: 10 minutes

Meals:

  • 2 (cups) CourseBeverage Gluten-free kitchen, vegan Freezer friendlyNo Up to 24 hours Ingridients.
  • 32 g whole coffee beans (as fresh as possible – we love Yirgacheffe) 500 ml of filtered water

Instructions:

  1. Measure about 1 g of coffee per 16 ml of water. For 500 ml / 2 cup of coffee you will use 32 g of coffee and 500 ml of water.
  2. Grind the beans to the consistency of fine sea salt or table salt and set aside. Also boil the filtered water (add a little more water to the pot (~ 600 ml) as you will need something extra to wet the filter – see next step).
  3. Unfold the paper filter by separating it with three folds on one side and one fold on the other (see video for video). Then insert the filter on top of your Chemex and place the three-fold side against the spout.
  4. Soak a paper filter with enough hot water to saturate it. This reduces the potential for the “taste of paper” in your coffee. Then pour the excess water over the spout.
  5. Add the coffee grounds to the filter and shake gently to settle.
  6. Add enough water to cover the coffee grounds (~ 66 ml) so that the coffee can “bloom”. Then wait 45 seconds. This is a step that allows the gas to escape from the coffee to improve the overall taste.
  7. After flowering, start pouring the coffee in small circles with the remaining hot water. Concentrate the watering mostly in the inner circle, occasionally pouring near the edges to constantly wet the soil. For the first round, pour about 200 ml of water.
  8. If you pour slowly enough, you can constantly flow and let it filter at the same speed (which is ideal for optimal taste). However, you can pour ~ 200 ml batches at a time. But try to make sure the reasons never go away completely. The total pouring time should be 3.5 minutes. When it is cooked, remove the filter and enjoy the coffee.

Bonus tip: Heat the cup with the remaining hot water before pouring the coffee. Discard excess water before enjoying coffee. Enjoy fresh or cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
